POSITION DESCRIPTION

Director - Marketing, Sales & Customer Support


Department                 Sales & Marketing

Work Location            Breckenridge, MN

Reports to                   President/CEO

Key Roles

  • Drive RRVW’s sales and marketing strategy
  • Advance and strengthen RRVW’s relationships with customers and connecting carriers
  • Develop and lead a strong team of sales/marketing and customer support employees

Principal Accountabilities

  • Act as Role Model to demonstrate and inspire customer service, a safety mindset, ethics, and responsiveness
  • Develop volume & revenue goals for annual & five year budgets
  • Identify, capture and maintain business opportunities for unit train, carload, transload, and car storage segments
  • Work with connecting Class I rail carriers to capture new traffic including service, rates, and equipment
  • Coordinate with VP Econ. Dev. & Community Affairs to attract and locate new customer investments on RRVW
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships, organize customer events and sponsored meetings
  • Participate and provide RRVW leadership within targeted trade and customer associations
  • Reconcile actual revenue and volume results vs. budget in a monthly report presented to president and board
  • Monitor and provide timely ag and carload market updates to all departments, president, and board
  • Communicate and coordinate customer requirements with transportation and engineering departments
  • Supervise car distribution, interchange coordinators, and OEP, demurrage, and car storage administration
  • Oversee customer support team’s handling, diffusion, and resolution of customer issues and concerns
  • Work with Class I service centers to resolve movement/billing issues
  • Oversee RRVW tariffs and STB filings for local traffic, demurrage, and accessorial services
  • Develop and distribute key marketing and service metrics to other departments, president and board

 Assigned Hours/Conditions

  • Majority Monday to Friday daytime business hours, with occasional irregular hours
  • Combination of office and outdoor working conditions in varying weather and environmental conditions
  • Travel for company business, occasionally without advance notice
  • Meet deadlines, interface with President/CEO and RRVW’s Board of Directors

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Agriculture Economics/Agribusiness, or Business.  Master’s degree a plus.
  • Minimum ten years’ agribusiness, business, or grain marketing experience
  • Previous railroad experience as a carrier or shipper preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new customers and nurture new and existing relationships
  • Demonstrated creativity to solve problems and conflicts within a team-oriented, regional railroad environment
  • Must be self-motivated with an ability to adapt to changing situations
  • Proven written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • General knowledge of rail transportation and operations
  • Proven ability to teach and develop sales, marketing, and customer service personnel
  • Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues
  • Ability to communicate expectations and provide constructive feedback
  • Ability to accept and catalyze change to improve RRVW’s customer service, safety, and productivity
  • Strong computer skills and acumen to develop and utilize key metrics to monitor and grow the business
  • Must be insurable to drive company vehicles

Carload Sales Representative


Department                 Sales & Marketing

Reports to                   Director – Sales, Marketing & Customer Support

Principal Accountabilities

 Identify, capture and maintain business opportunities for carload, transload, and car storage segments

  • Develop profiles for targeted rail-served and non-rail-served businesses in RRVW’s service territory (volume shipped, origin/destination, frequency, current mode, key contacts, etc.);
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers, connecting railroads, truckers, and logistics providers
  • Motivate others to assist RRVW’s goal of new carload business through shared objectives and positive interaction
  • Work with RRVW’s transportation and engineering departments to develop cost-effective RRVW service offerings for target carload and transload clients
  • Work with connection Class I carriers to capture new carload traffic including service, equipment, and rates
  • Monitor and provide timely business updates to Director-  Sales, Marketing, & Customer Support
  • Oversee resolution of carload customer issues during start-up operations

Qualifications

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Certified Welders

(Vertical & Overhead Welding)


Inspect, maintain and repair freight car fleet in a timely manner in accordance with RRVW, AAR and FRA standards.  AWS certified is preferred but not required.  Must be knowledgeable of operation of various power tools.  Ability to frequently climb up and down ladders along with frequent lifting, pushing and pulling.  Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable to drive company vehicles.  Must be 18 years of age or older.  Employment is subject to pre-employment physical, drug test and background check.

 

Hours:  Noon to 10 pm, Monday thru Thursday
